GIANTS KELLY AWARDED 2020 PHIL WALSH MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP
GIANTS Development Coach, Luke Kelly was announced as the winner of the fifth Phil Walsh Memorial Scholarship, at the AFL Coaches Association AGM in Melbourne on Tuesday.
Kelly, who has a Bachelor of Sports Management, was awarded the scholarship based on his commitment to his career and personal development and on the job training.
Before joining the GIANTS in October 2016 as Senior Performance Analyst, Kelly spent five years with the Western Bulldogs as a Performance Analyst. AFL Coaches Association CEO, Mark Brayshaw reflected on Phil Walsh and spoke about the Phil Walsh Memorial Scholarship and 2020 recipient Luke Kelly.
“Phil Walsh was an inveterate traveller and student of all sports. He was Degree qualified and took a long time to become the Crows Senior Coach, putting together a fabulous body of work to be appointed.
We are thrilled that Phil's memory is – in part – manifested each year with the AFLCA’s Scholarship named is his memory. Ten terrific applications were submitted and Luke Kelly’s was selected by our nine strong Advisory Group as the one that best reflected Phil: innovative creativity, a passion for learning and love of travel. We congratulate Luke and encourage him to spend the $10,000 prize wisely, just like Walshy would have!” Brayshaw said.
